The other day I caught a TV documentary – another selection of cosmologists and physicists presenting their multi-universe hypotheses. Interesting.
I continue to have a semantic problem with the idea of ”multi-universe”. “Uni” means one and ”Universe” is generally understood to mean the totality of everything. If you find another of all that we can currently detect, it means only that the Universe contained more than we could previously detect. If you find a “complementary universe” made of antimatter then it means only that the Universe contains half matter and half antimatter. Any model that suggests that there are additional “universes” with characteristics different to those which we can detect only suggest that the Universe may contain more diversity that we currently detect. Find any amount of anything anywhere and the Universe is unchanged – that which was found was already present. The Universe is the manifestation of God – Ex Nihilo.
What we do have, however, is an infinite number of discrete experiences of the Universe. One Western esoteric tradition asserts “every man and every woman is a star” (Crowley, Liber AL 1:3). Each human brain contains the trace of that individual’s passage through time and space, stores sufficient information to recall large volumes of the space it has sensed.
Some variants on the multi-universe concept include the idea of quantum uncertainty collapsing into reality upon observation, with all possibilities manifesting simultaneously, branching into multiple futures at every decision point. I would argue that the passage of an individual star is the only possibility for that individual because it is the one reality that manifested. An infinite number of experiences are accumulated over infinite space and time without having the bothersome accumulation of matter implied by simultaneity – AL 2:3 ”In the sphere I am everywhere the centre, as she, the circumference is nowhere found”. Every individual is the centre of the Universe and however far that individual travels or how long he lives, the limits of the Universe will be no closer.
As much as I enjoy the very large and the very small, the work of big science, I constantly come back to the acceptance that every one of us is having a completely discrete experience of the human-scale Universe – that which we can perceive with our unaided senses.
All of this has led to my own expression of self… “I am the one that…”. What follows is everything that differentiates my life experience/understanding from that of anyone else. Choice is an illusion – whatever I do is precisely that which I consider the highest value in that moment which is the consequence of all that has gone before, that makes possible and predisposes me to that action and no other. If chance causes my path to deviate from my expectations then my choice is only in how to judge the altered circumstances and to form new expectations. Along the principle of “history is written by the winner”, each individual is on a solo journey through life – no winner or loser, nothing other than a unique experience. Each of us is differently abled. Some have physical advantages or disadvantages – which is which not always being apparent (tall is great if you want to play basketball, but not if you want to be a fighter pilot!). Some are born into wealth or poverty. Intellect. Mood. Creativity. These and many more physical/chemical/circumstantial differences influence the possible and likely course of life, but none define the precise trajectory. If a purpose for life can readily be found it may simply be to experience and integrate every possible set of circumstances. Whatever life you are leading is the realisation of a possibility that had to be realised – it is like no other, no other will do as you have done.
AVS/brainwave entrainment is an excellent tool for taking time out from doing/being to examine the journey thus far. The very act of using AVS immediately places you in a distinctive subset of humanity – it will change the course of your life to a greater or lesser extent and in ways that you probably won’t anticipate. Open-eye delta is excellent for making obscure connections. Theta is useful for tracing “chain of evidence” - finding the origins of prejudices and predilections. Alpha is ideal for end-of-day debriefing – correlating situations and responses. Beta is good for analysing apparent options and preparing expectations – if you think becoming President of the USA is an option then consider preparing for disappointment, only 44 have made it out all who have lived in the entire history of mankind (44/106 billion - if you don’t like the way I’ve used this statistic, consider not that the USA has existed only briefly in the ages of humanity making the probability higher, but that the USA (“West”) as we know it may soon cease to exist making the probability lower!).
Another popular multi-universe model involves folded dimensions – universes within universes. I would argue that the sentient brain is the “folded dimension” of the Universe, folded and unfolded at will – containing recollection of past, perception of present and anticipation of future. Time is a function of the sentient brain. Language was created to communicate ideas about things that were not present – things that existed out of the particular time/space that could be referred to by simple gesture. New language continues to be created to name and describe things that most of us will never see or experience first-hand. One of Adam’s first tasks in the Garden of Eden was the naming of each living creature (Gen 2:19).
I’m not too worried about how the future will unfold. It’s going to unfold as it does. However it unfolds, I am the one that… will experienced what comes next from the unique perspective of the star that I am. (Note Crowley’s Aiwass and Lam – lwas and lam).
Cheers,
Craig
