Celeron Dual Core vs Core 2 Duo
As an incidental byproduct of designing the first of my new series of sessions, I had two machine sitting side by side exporting MP3 from Mind Workstation.
The contenders were a Celeron E1500 @2.2GHz (XP/3.5GB RAM) and a Core 2 Duo E4500 @2.2Ghz. (Win2K/2GB RAM).
I neglected to note actual times, but that’s not important, because these have so much random content that they export barely quicker than real time. Starting both at the same instant they finish so closely together that I couldn’t tell which was the first to report success. The Celeron showed slightly higher CPU usage, which was not as well balanced as the Core 2’s utilisation.
So, it would be fair to say, assuming a single task running, MP3 export from MWS is closely tied to the CPU speed and not so dependent on architecture, memory, OS or anything much else.
Back to the studio!
Cheers,
Craig
P.S. Further editing on my laptop, a Core 2 Duo 1.83GHz, 2GB RAM, Vista Home Premium machine, provided the opportunity to compare clock rates. The laptop came in about 15% slower than the desktops.
